So you’re thinking of having a campervan holiday with a toddler? As are we. This sounds ok…Tucking our 2-year-old Max into his roof bed at 7pm, after a story and cuddles, drawing the curtain and then settling down in our bit of the campervan with a glass of something and a good book.

April 18th 2017. The day we go on our first campervan holiday with a toddler. The above is what we are hoping for.
An alternative to consider, he takes 2 hours to get off to sleep, we can’t be bothered to drink or read anything so we go to bed, only to have to get up halfway through the night, creep to the loo, while biting my tongue because I hit my head on the low ceiling and trod on a piece of his lego with bare-feet.
These are 2 scenarios we have considered now we have taken the plunge and decided to do a campervan holiday, or maybe bigger plunge, and buy one!!
We love a good travelling holiday. New Zealand in 2012, USA in 2013 and again in 2016. We also did USA in 2015, but didn’t get the opportunity to Blog as we did 1,500 miles in a car, hopping from city to city, hotel to hotel, with Max.
Dare we take a Campervan Holiday with a toddler?
I guess that’s why we found ourselves looking at Campervans and Motorhomes. The only bad thing about the USA 2016 trip was lugging bag after bag into the hotel room the to cater for a wife AND a 15 month old. Imagine having the hotel room packed on day one, then dragging it around for everywhere with you, unloading nothing until you get home. Sounds perfect.
If you can live with a shower the size of an upturned coffin, a loo you have to empty, and bed that should you roll more that 6 inches, you’ll be on the floor or worse still, your rear end pressed against the window hoping the curtain has done it’s job and your bits and pieces aren’t exposed to the rest of the camp site, then touring in a motorhome or a campervan could be the answer.
I may have been a bit negative, and probably completely unjustified as we have never taken one of these holidays.
Our ideal scenario when on our Campervan Holiday with a toddler?
What I really want is to park up by a beautiful lake, hot sun beating down, everywhere you look there is a vista worthy of photographing, printing and hanging on the wall just to remind yourself.
What I don’t want is the possible reality, of rolling up at a campsite at 9pm because you got stuck behind a tractor for 10 miles, going at 10 miles an hour, with screaming kids in the back because it is way past their bedtime and even further past their tea time! But then you have the kitchen and food with you. Pull over, and feed them in a lay-by on the A303. Sounds ok. Doesn’t it?
There’s that negativity again. Stop it!!
